DIRECTOR OF CHURCH ADMINISTRATION
Church
The client church is the Fellowship Evangelical Free Church of the Back Mountain and is located 15 minutes from downtown Wilkes-Barre in Dallas, Pennsylvania (Northeastern Pennsylvania). It is a residential/rural setting. The church has been in existence for more than 25 years and is a part of the Eastern District of the Evangelical Free Churches. A Bible believing, Biblical application preaching church, it has a staff consisting of a Senior Pastor and two part-time staff members, one for maintenance and one for secretarial duties. The church is Congregation governed but Elder led. The church has an annual budget approaching $500,000 with approximately 150 giving units in its congregation. Paraphrased, its vision is to make disciples who make disciples and spread the Gospel of God’s Good News in Jesus Christ.
Position:
The Director of Church Administration (DCA) is a newly created staff position. At present, reporting to this position are the two part-time staff members. This position, in turn, reports to the Senior Pastor and is responsible to him for daily guidance and direction. A smooth working relationship with the Senior Pastor and members of the Elder Board will be essential for success. This position will not be a member of the Elder Board. The successful candidate will, upon acceptance of the position, be required to be a regular attendee of the church and, barring any extreme circumstances, will be required to become a regular member.
This new position will have as his/her primary goal the handling all of the administrative tasks of the church; thereby freeing the senior pastor to minister to the congregation’s needs. It will be extremely important for this person to anticipate and act on issues that have arisen and will arise that would otherwise distract the Pastor or hinder the efforts of the numerous ministry leaders. As such, administrative skills and their urgency must be balanced against purposeful compassion for the membership and their sensitivities. The primary duties and responsibilities of the DCA will include but are not limited to:
– Management of existing, non pastoral staff
– Integration and Coordination of the efforts of the Ministry Leaders and Deacons, including supervision/coordination of events and projects utilizing multiple ministries or lay volunteers;
– Special Initiatives at direction of Senior Pastor
– Management of church expenditures within approved budget lines.
– Management of the Church database.
– Management and utilization of the church’s physical assets (i.e. copier, telephone, etc).
– Proactively seek to support the work of the church
– Proactively seek to resolve all administrative issues
The metrics of future success are the satisfaction of the Senior Pastor, Eder Board, Congregation, Ministry Leaders and Deacons that this person has provided genuine service and assistance. This will also include a demonstration of a growing Christian life.
Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be a seasoned and mature Christian that has 5 or more years (not required to be consecutive) of successful administrative assignments. Experience either as paid staff or layperson in a faith based Christian organization is necessary. Supervisory or managerial skills are preferred. Previous assignments and particular skills in Human Resources, Office Management and the like would be appropriate. Specific skills and experiences would include:
– Demonstrated ability to manage an office and its complexities
– History of administrative work (volunteer lay or paid staff) in a Christian faith based environment.
– Experience in the use of Microsoft Office and other computer software systems to input, access and retrieve member information, church assets and inventory, etc.
– A demonstrable history of the ability to keep simultaneous multiple tasks and multiple priorities in clear order.
– Can successfully perform presentations to Elders, subordinates and Congregants.
– A history of adapting to a rapidly changing priorities and meeting the correspondingly revised objectives.
– Articulate the concept that the position is to be a full time ministry position and how the candidate feels “called” to full-time ministry.
Finally, the candidate must be able to show a commanding determination to seek and accommodate growth, to embrace the vision of the church and particularly the Senior Pastor.
Compensation:
The total compensation for this position, including any benefits, will be based upon the church’s budget and the candidate’s levels of applicable skills and experiences. Candidates living within a 15 mile radius of the church are given a very strong preference. There is minimal travel and there will be no relocation assistance.
Must Have:
– Must have managed an office or service function within a Christian faith based environment for at least 5 years (See above)
– Must have excellent interpersonal skills in addition to excellent communication and presentation skills.
– Must have the demonstrated ability to work independently and achieve objectives
– Must have a demonstrated ability to manage him/herself and others
– Must have appropriate Microsoft Office skills
– Demonstrated growth in Christian life
